Hello everyone,

This Saturday, July 26, 2 pm (PST), I will be appearing at the 30th Annual Humboldt Folklife Festival in Blue Lake, California. If you’re in the greater Humboldt County area, you should definitely make your way to the festival, which is a free all-day event. If you are nowhere near these parts, I just learned that there will be a video stream of the festival on the Internet, and I suppose if you tune in between 2 and 3 pm (PST), there is a chance you might catch a glimpse of some of my set. This is going to be an interesting event for me because it’s been a while since I’ve been on stage (I’ve been away traveling with my family – more on that later), and it’s just going to be me and my guitar, and a list of songs I feel like doing. It occurs to me that if you think you might tune in, and there’s a certain song you’d like to request, send an email and I’ll try to fit it in to the set:

Before I left on my travels in December, I was able to make a nice deposit to the Drake Crone Fund thanks to those of you who bought copies of the “Two Nights in Myrtletown” CD and pitched in extra money as well. Things were looking really great for Drake for a time, but – I can barely stand to write this – he died from cancer on March 17. For those of you who aren’t sure what this is about, Drake was a beautiful little boy in my neighborhood, and when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, the family’s health insurance company wouldn’t cover any of the expenses. For those of you who pitched in, I want to let you know that Drake’s family was really touched and grateful. His mom posted a tribute to him on the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Web site:

As a result of sales of �Two Nights in Myrtletown� and extra help from some generous donors I have been able to pull together $1200 so far for the Drake Crone Fund! Hey everyone,

(1) CD sales for the Drake Crone fund � thank you!!!!
Thanks to everyone who decided a little Americana/folk-rock music would hit the spot, and picked up �Two Nights in Myrtletown,� the final recording by the EHH Band. As a result of CD sales, I�ve donated $500 to the Drake Crone fund so far, and hope to be able to double that goal soon. Drake�s family asked me to say �thank you� to everyone who has helped so far. Good news: Drake is doing better than expected, and getting ready for his bone-marrow transplant and then 4 months in the isolation ward (with his mom). Everybody has high hopes for this little guy.

(2) What�s new?
After 4 years of some pretty fun times, the EHH Band has called it quits, and I�m refocusing on my solo stuff. This is all good; the guys are busy with their lives, and I�m really ready to explore some new ideas. I hope this finds you happy and well. I wanted to let you know about a few new things:

(1) �Two Nights in Myrtletown� � a new CD/fundraiser

I�m happy to announce the release of �Two Nights in Myrtletown,� a CD by the EHH Band produced as part of KHUM-FM�s �Back Porch� radio show. The CD includes live versions of some band favorites like �Durango,� �Where�s Charlene,� and �Life is a Road,� and some previously unreleased songs that I hope you will enjoy. It�s a nice recording, professionally engineered by Tim Gray at Myrtletown Studios in Eureka, California, and mastered by Mark Chalecki at Capitol Records in L.A.

This project is a fundraiser for the Crone family, neighbors of mine whose beautiful little 3-year-old son is suffering from a rare form of childhood cancer. Drake has been going through months of chemotherapy now, preparing for a critical bone-marrow transplant. The Crones� health insurance company has refused to cover any of Drake�s treatments (don�t even get me started on that!!!), so it�s up to the community to help in whatever way we can.

(2) I�m planning to release the new EHH Band �live� CD as a fund-raiser for a friend and neighbor of mine whose beautiful little 3-year-old son is suffering from cancer. Hey friends,

1) Thanks, KHUM: The �Back Porch� on KHUM, the live on-air show we did November 15, was quite a hoot for the band, and we thank Larry Trask and all the fine folks at KHUM-FM for inviting us to play. For those of you who missed it the first time, or were unable to hear it online, I�m going to post a copy of the show on the web site sometime soon. I�ll let you know when it is up and running.

2) One more show for 2006: We have only one more live show coming up before the band goes on hiatus for a few months. Please join us this Thursday, December 7 at Six Rivers in McKinleyville to wish Brandon �bon voyage et bon chance� (translation: �have fun in Washington, D.C., brother!�).

3) Neil Young�s �Living With War Today�: Neil Young has a page on his web site where he posts links to protest songs by a bunch of different artists. I submitted a link to my song �Little Wooden Crosses� a couple weeks ago, and it got added. It�s sitting at #162 or so right now. Please check out this site, and the ideas that can be found there. One song I really liked a lot is �We�ll Buy a Flag� by Robert Morgan Fisher, currently #7.
